Airfilter Engineering (AFE) began manufacturing compressed air filters and elements in 1993. AFE is now an established maker of not only our own range of compressed air filters and elements but also a comprehensive range of compatible replacement elements for a variety of brand names, water separators, air adsorption dryers and accessories for your filters. Through its years of experience in marketing compressed air treatment products and recognizing the market potential for high quality compressed air filters as well as the advantage of the lower production cost in Malaysia, AFE has been producing compressed air filters, replacement elements and adsorption air dryers using the technical know-how of a German partner for more than 20 years. Wherever possible, raw materials for production are always sourced locally, unless they are not available and in such cases they are imported from Europe.

Furthermore, to prove that Airfilter Engineering (AFE) is not just hot air; we have had our filters tested and validated in accordance to ISO 8573 by a reputable independent institute in Germany. AFE's products have also been certified by Lloyd's Register to be in compliance to the European Pressure Equipment Directive (97/23/EC). Our company has also been audited by Lloyd's Register Quality Assurance (LRQA) and awarded the ISO 9001:2000 since 2002 - this means that we are following the quality management system of the best standard.

 As we know air produced by your compressor contains water and other impurities. AFE’s filter is designed to remove these pollutants: the P grade high efficiency pre-filter/ particulate filter, which removes particles down to 3 micron. The particulate filter protects piping and pneumatic equipment from particulate damage by removing rust, pipe scale, metal oxides, and desiccant particles. The U, H & S grades are high efficiency coalescing filter. The high efficiency coalescing filter removes water aerosols, oil aerosols and solid particles to a specified level which gets rid of particles and oil aerosols down to 0.01 micron and 0.001 mg/m3 respectively. It is important to realize that a coalescer is excellent at removing aerosols and liquids but not vapours like hydrocarbons and odors. A vapour filter removes vapours with an adsorbent. The C grade, an activated carbon filter, is a vapour filter which removes oil vapor and hydrocarbon odors. Depending on the air flow and oil content in the compressed air, vapour filter elements need to be replaced every few months because the effectiveness of the activated carbon degrades as it adsorbs the oil.

Compressed air filters should be installed in a level pipeline, mounted vertically, the bowl downward with one element length clearance for element removal. The filter should be installed at the highest pressure point available, and as close to the equipment being protected as possible and have a drip leg immediately upstream.

Pressure drop is used to determine when to change a filter. Contaminants, pressure, temperature and other variables affect the service-life of a filter. Generally in a compressed air system, when the pressure drop across the filter reaches 0.4 - 0.6 bar (8 to 10 psi), the element should be changed. It is critical to drain the filter housing daily to release condensate that gathers in the bottom of the filter bowl. Automatic drain valves simplify this process and protect your system from water flooding.

AFE’s filters provide air quality to the ISO 8573 standard—but it’s important to remember that the effectiveness of any filter is directly related to the performance of the filter element at minimal pressure differential.

So check your AFE filter elements often and reorder when necessary to assure a steady stream of contaminant-free compressed air in your system!

Adsorption Dryer

Drying compressed air through adsorption represents a purely physical process in the course of which water vapour is bound to the drying medium (desiccant) through binding forces of molecular adhesion. For adsorption to take place, moist air is directed through the adsorber at various operating pressures. During this process, the moist compressed air comes into contact with the hydrophilic desiccant molecules when it flows from the bottom to the top of the vessel. The dessicant molecules will retain the moisture which results in dry compressed air leaving the vessel.

Compressed air is a industrial wide used power source. Over the years it became a crucial part of a wide range in industrial processes. However, compressed air after compression is not clean and contains impurities like, water, oil, dirt, wear particles and so on. This mixture creates a form of condensate which damage downstream equipment like air tools, pneumatic cylinders and other pneumatic tools. It also causes high maintenance and costly air leaks in compressed air systems. The use of highly efficient compressed air filters and condensate drains will remove a lot of these impurities and can eliminate most of the problems downstream. For many applications this is not enough. These applications need an even higher level of compressed air quality. Point of use desiccant dryers will provide this level of air quality at the point where the quality is needed without investing a large amount in centralized purification systems which are often not needed because only certain areas of the production process needs that high quality air.

AFE Water Separators

Compressed air is normally saturated with moisture in the form of water vapour as well as aerosol, and this needs to be removed to prevent problems further downstream at the point of application.

 AFE’s water separator is specially designed based on the proven centrifugal separation to remove up to 99% of the water aerosol in compressed air. Working in conjunction with other compressed air treatment products like filters, after-cooler and dryers, the water separator is very cost effective way of further enhancing their efficiency by ensuring that bulk water generated in the compressed air is properly separated and discharged from the system.
